Public Meetings on the Local Development Plan

Calderdale Council have recently begun a consultation on their draft Local Development Plan which is a planning strategy outlining the scale of development in the Borough over a 15-20 year period. As part of this plan, the Council want to build 19 000 new houses many of which would be on Green Belt land. A large proportion of these extra houses are earmarked for communities in the Calder Valley. The wider Brighouse, Rastrick & Hipperholme area is set to accommodate over 6000 new houses; the Elland/Greetland area has been earmarked for 2800 properties; with smaller allocations in communities including Ripponden, Sowerby, Luddendenfoot, Mytholmroyd, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.

I have called a series of public meetings to discuss these plans. Meetings have already taken place in Brighouse (14th August), Greetland (15th August) and Mytholmroyd (16th August) and I will be chairing further meetings as follows:

Thursday 17th August, starting at 19:00, at the Brighouse Civic Hall. This meeting will focus on the plans for the Brighouse, Rastrick & Hipperholme areas

Wednesday 23rd August, 19:30, Barkisland Cricket Club, Scammonden Road, Barkisland. This meeting will focus on the plans for the Ryburn area

Thursday 24th August, 19:00, All Saints Church, Elland. This meeting will focus on the plans for the Elland area.

Friday 25th August, 19:00, Todmorden Cricket Club, Burnley Road, Todmorden. This meeting will focus on the plans for the Upper Calder Valley, including Todmorden & Hebden Bridge.

Friday 1st September, 19:00, Heptonstall Social & Bowling Club, Acre Lane, Heptonstall, Hebden Bridge. This meeting will focus on the plans for the Heptonstall & Hebden Bridge areas.

Monday 4th September, 19:00, Hipperholme Christ Church, Wakefield Road, Hipperholme. This meeting will focus upon the plans for the Hipperholme & Lightcliffe area.

Friday 8th September, 19:30, St Peter’s Community Centre, Sowerby, Sowerby Bridge. This meeting will focus on the plans for the Sowerby and Ryburn area

Local Councillors will be attending these meetings with me to assist residents with any questions.

It is absolutely vital that people are aware of these plans and have the opportunity to take part in the consultation to ensure that their views are taken into account. I would encourage residents to attend these open public meetings to learn more about the plans and how they can take part in the consultation. People can also contact me directly if they have any particular questions or concerns.
